About
David M. Patrick’s latest project is to record César Franck’s organ music for Guild on the magnificent Harrison & Harrison organ of St Alban’s Cathedral. The first album contains some of Franck’s greatest music, including the three Chorals, the Pastorale and Grand Pièce Symphonique. Superbly recorded by Paul Crichton, David’s interpretations certainly eschew the sacred approach to Franck’s organ music.

The instrument in St Alban’s Cathedral has its own place in organ history, and David M Patrick’s registrations have enough of that chunky snarl to sound plausibly French – at least until the full organ is unleashed…Patrick’s selection makes satisfying sense, beginning with impeccable performances of the Trois Chorals.

Patrick gives us a somewhat urgent account of the Pastorale but a truly invigorating one of the Grande pièce symphonique which, with his instinctive understanding of organ tone, high level of virtuosity and a lifetime immersed in this musical idiom, produces something very special indeed.
