With Michael Korstick, Oehms Classics has released about 15 CD productions, including a critically-acclaimed box of Beethoven sonatas, that received wide-ranging praise. With his first Rachmaninoff recording he once more demonstrates his inspired ability to empathize completely with the composer in question. The Janácek Philharmonic Ostrava under Dmitry Liss proves an excellent accompanist. The CD is completed by the Corelli Variations, recorded in February 2018, and the Piano Sonata No. 2, recorded much earlier (2005).

Surely…Korstick’s high-voltage, even fanatical energy might make for a great concert experience but as a recording for repeated listening it is ultimately more exhausting than inspiring.
