Boris Zarankin was born in Novosibirsk and grew up in Kharkov, Ukraine. He studied at the Kharkov State Conservatory with Regina Horowitz and at the Moscow State Conservatory with Evgeny Malinin. He has appeared as a soloist with orchestras and has given solo recitals in Russia, Ukraine, USA, Canada, Japan, Germany, Holland, Mexico and Indonesia. Zarankin's recordings of Chopin's Etudes, two volumes of Schubert-Liszt Lieder, and works by Beethoven have garnered great critical acclaim: "The sound he draws from the piano is warm, mellow, infinitely varied.” The Ottawa Citizen "Zarankin's way of playing... amounts to an aesthetic revelation."
