This album comprises world première recordings of works by Vaughan Williams arranged for two pianos by people who worked closely with the composer. The Fifth Symphony manuscript bears many amendments and annotations in Vaughan Williams’s own hand, and the recording offers the work with new clarity and fresh insight. The British piano duo Goldstone and Clemmow consists of internationally known artists Anthony Goldstone and Caroline Clemmow. They have been recording together, to widespread acclaim, for more than a third of a century.

Very interesting…excellently played.

[The Symphony] comes across with a fascinating clarity, well conveying the raw and rapturous truth of VW’s inspiration. The Tallis Fantasia, though, comes close to an autonomous piece, its rich polyphony captured by the note-intensive medium.
