About
The musical chameleon Emil Nikolaus von Reznicek is one of the late German Romantic composers, whose multifaceted style makes him difficult to classify. Prior to the inauguration of CPO’s grand edition of Reznicek’s major works a few years ago, he was known to classical music fans solely as the composer of the Donna Diana Overture. In the meantime things have changed: on our many Reznicek releases listeners can experience for themselves all the stunts – seriously intended ones, mind you – performed by this master of metamorphosis.

The performances under Marcus Bosch are very decent and affectionate, and Sophie Jaffé is a sweet-toned soloist in the Konzertstück. No revelations here, but well worth a listen if you’re curious about a figure once hailed, as the booklet tells us, as the equal of Strauss and Pfitzner.

Genial and generous works, beautifully and lovingly played and recorded.
