This new release from the Etcetera label shows the diverse musical influences in Telemann’s wind music. He was interested in folk music and one can hear its exotic influence resounding in various concerti. In the finale of the Concerto for Transverse Flute and Recorder, we can hear Telemann’s interest in Polish music emerging through what one might call its “Italian dressing”.
Telemann also loved unusual combinations (the combination of recorder and transverse flute is a great rarity) and also all sorts of playful touches, such as the coplex canonic imitations he plays withthroughout the Septet for three oboes, three Violins and Basso Continuo.
