About
This album was made during the first recording sessions ever held in the Soviet Union by non-Soviet technicians and musical staff, using equipment transported from the US especially for this purpose. The Shostakovich Quartets were recorded on June 17, 1962, at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, using three Schoeps M201 microphones. Original recording on 35mm 3-track magnetic film, which has been lost. Originally released as SR90309. This CD was remastered from a 2-track magnetic tape using Wilma Cozart’s original 3–2 mix.
