Although Tito Schipa made many studio recordings, the live performances preserved on this disc are a precious addition to his legacy. Part of the recordings featured here are from 1939 Berlin Concerts and since there is no applause they are most likely live radio broadcasts. While it is painful to think of Schipa performing in Nazi Germany, one can only imagine his unenviable position as Mussolini’s political pawn, representing Italian culture in cosmopolitan Berlin.
