The service of Evensong is a special event at all cathedrals, being celebrated daily either in the said form or as a full choral service. This service has a special theme to commemorate the start of World War I. Two pieces by Ivor Gurney who fought in WWI for the Gloucestershire Regiment are featured and are first recordings, together with the canticles of Neil Cox, especially written for Gloucester Cathedral Choir. John Sanders, a past director of music at the cathedral is also represented in three works including, “A Prayer”, the last piece written before his untimely death in 2003.
