About

“From Bach to Broadway II” is a reflection of the trombone quartet OPUS 4’s broad repertoire and its musical development over the last 20 years. Daniel Sutton’s and Jörg Richter’s varied arrangements equip the ensemble with a unique signature, and OPUS 4’s repertoire ranges from early baroque works straight to compositions of the 21st century.

On this CD, the percussions of Conny Sommer add a new dimension and color to the already varied sound palette of the quartet.

The founding of the trombone quartet OPUS 4 dates back to the year 1994. At the time, the quartet included four trombonists of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra: Jörg Richter, Dirk Lehmann, Eberhard Uhlig and Prof. Rolf Handrow.

The trombone quartet OPUS 4 owes much of the mellow sound that has become its signature to its instruments. The musicians play on a full set of German Trombones made by the house of Kruspe. For their concerts of early music, in contrast to this warm romantic color, the players use a complete set of Baroque Trombones made by Jürgen Voigt (Markneukirchen).
