In 18th Century England Italian opera arias and sonatas were much appreciated and audiences often felt the necessity to listen to them again in the intimacy of their own homes. Many of the singers were invited to perform the same pieces in rich families' salons, coffee houses and taverns accompanied by professional musicians (and sometimes amateurs as

well). Here is a hypothetical ensemble of virtuosos for these famous sonata and aria transcriptions for recorder, in which features typical of improvisation and singing are evident.
