About
Imagine: a work of searing beauty, masterly orchestration and emotional profundity; only once heard, never recorded – lost to generations. It is this work, Robin Milford’s Violin Concerto, that the pioneering label EM Records is to resurrect, allowing its inspirational delights to be heard again at last.
Its companion work will be no less a ground-breaking recording. Stanford’s exquisite Second Violin Concerto shows the power of its composer at his most authoritative and expressive. Dramatic intensity, high virtuosity and melting lyricism combine to glorious effect in this recently-discovered treasure.

[The Stanford] is a wonderfully fluent, warm-hearted creation...Dashingly committed treatment it enjoys, too, from Rupert Marshall-Luck, whoe receives uncommonly fine support from Owain Arwel Hughes at the helm of the BBC Concert Orchestra...Plaudits and gratitude to all concerned.

Rupert Marshall-Luck is clearly in his element with music of this kind. His performance in both concerti is sensitive and committed, and he’s a convincing advocate for both works...This is a lovely disc...It has certainly made me want to explore the works of Milford further – and the orchestrated Stanford shows a side of this composer that I hadn’t really been aware of before. Highly recommended!
