About

In his first solo recital for Naive, Swiss pianist Francesco Piemontesi, who studied with Alfred Brendel, Cécile Ousset and Alexis Weissenberg, has chosen Mozart: a composer who will effectively preoccupy him for some time. He is embarking on the complete sonatas of Mozart, and he will perform at Wigmore Hall, London, before pursuing the complete concertos. This recording marks but the beginning of this great Mozartian's ambitious project. Best newcomer in the BBC Music Magazine Awards 2012, Francesco's Mozart tour runs from 20th February to 3rd April 2014.

Awards and reviews

July 2014

Piemontesi rises to the challenge with conviction. With tone ranging from dusky to glittering, always clear and thoroughly articulated, the transparency of his playing reminds us that Mozart is any musician's ultimate test...he proves himself a Mozartian force to be reckoned with.

1st May 2014

Piemontesi is a highly intelligent musician, with a wide-ranging repertoire, but his Mozart playing is certainly special, intensely thoughtful and scrupulously prepared.

3rd April 2014

Piemontesi approaches these piano works with all the textural lucidity they require. But his intellectual and stylistic sights are set much higher and deeper than mere clarity...Piemontesi’s playing on this disc identifies a Mozartian of rare refinement and wisdom.

Pianist Magazine October/November 2015

Programming a CD with a collection of Mozart’s piano works is not easy … Piemontesi cleverly adds a couple of rondos after a fine performance of the less popular D major Sonata.
