About
The two major organ works on these discs (his longest for organ) show Max Reger at the height of his powers; not only do they sustain a structural coherence over an impressive span, but they show an almost inexhaustible proliferation of invention.
As well as the large-scale 'Variations and Fugue on an Original Theme' and the 'Introduction Passacaglia and Fugue in E minor', this 2CD set includes a collection of shorter preludes and fugues: the 'Five Easy Preludes and Fugues' and two transcriptions of preludes and fugues by JS Bach from the 'Well-Tempered Clavier'.
Performed on the Symphony Organ in Symphony Hall, Birmingham, David Goode adds to his impressive recorded catalogue of works in this new collection.

Christmas Issue 2013
This recording includes Reger’s two biggest works for organ: Variations and Fuge on an Original Theme and Introduction and Passacaglia in E minor…well-handled by Goode.
March 2014
he remains an astute and highly sympathetic advocate for this music...Through generous use of the swell pedal and warmly cloudy registrations, Goode evokes a style of Bach-playing long abandoned in the interests of historical authenticity without significantly compromising their musical interest.
December 2013
Goode meets [Reger's] challenges, revealing the music in great clarity with the help of the Klais organ…There are some lovely individual moments and sounds achieved without sacrificing the overall grandeur of the effect that these larger pieces require.
26th May 2013
The larger works are impressive but remote, whereas the concentration necessary in the shorter works lends them, paradoxically, a feeling of greater substance.
25th April 2013
Goode certainly makes [the Preludes and Fugues] sparkle in a way that belies the composer's dour image.
