About
A great team of soloists united by their love for chamber music, two masterpieces in the rare repertoire of sextets for piano, wind and strings: this is a regal menu.
Dohnanyi has place of honour: giant of Hungarian culture, emulator of Brahms, contemporary of Bartók and one of the great victims of his country’s historical upheavals.
His fascinating Sextet illustrates the quality, creativity and vitality of his writing. Penderecki also composed a sextet for the same instruments at the end of last century. Ever since its premiere at the Musikverein in Vienna, this work has imposed itself as a cornerstone in the catalogue of the great Polish master.

A really meaty coupling, this...As for the Ensemble Kheops, no praise could be too high: unbelievably, they sound as if they were born to play both works. They're not only technically superb but wholly convincing interpreters, and the crystal-clear recorded sound matches their playing in its excellence.
