The great strength of this latest French release lies in the solo voices themselves. The Evangelist of Hans-Jorg Mammel is splendid in its clarity and brisk, no-nonsense delivery of the Passion story...Full marks must also go the the wind players of the Ricercar Consort...while Pierlot's direction gives the whole work a distinct feeling of purpose and shape, relating the Passion story with a pleasing absence of pretension or emotional weight.
