Kenneth Smith and Paul Rhodes here present a wonderful disc of English flute & piano music. It is believed that the pieces from Havelock Nelson and Thomas Dunhill are first recordings. The Alwyn Sonata is from a manuscript provided by the Cambridge University Library, and is also thought to be the first recording of this version. Kenneth Leighton’s flute sonata is also little known and no other recording is listed in the Muze/Gramophone Classical Catalogue.
