About

Bach's Passacaglia radiates a mystical fascination matched by few other organ works and has inspired many interpreters and composers over the centuries. This CD takes this work and traces a history of its interpretation: from the original, played on a historical Silbermann organ, through Franz Liszt's Romantic interpretation and versions for two-handed and four-handed piano by

Eugène d’Albert and Max Reger respectively, to the fully orchestrated version by Leopold Stokowski.
