…it's in the richly expressive Berg Sonata that Pöntinen excels… although many other fine versions of this work can be found, including those by Murray Perahia and (more recently) Pierre-Laurent Aimard, this performance - expansive and impassioned without self-indulgence, the recording admirably uncluttered - deserves a high place among current recommendations.
