American mezzo Elizabeth DeShong originally intended a career as a pianist, before studying voice at Oberlin College; she is in particular demand for bel canto roles including Bellini’s Adalgisa, Donizetti’s Orsini (Lucrezia Borgia), and Rossini’s Rosina, Cenerentola, Arsace ( Semiramide) and Calbo (Maometto II).

DeShong’s discography includes Suzuki on two different productions of Madama Butterfly on DVD/Blu-ray, Messiah with Sir Andrew Davis and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Lucrezia Borgia with Renée Fleming in the title-role, and Hermia in the Shakespeare-inspired baroque pasticcio The Enchanted Island from the Metropolitan Opera, conducted by William Christie and also starring Joyce DiDonato and Plácido Domingo.
