Ekaterina Gubanova

Nationality: Russian

Born in Moscow, Russian dramatic mezzo Ekaterina Gubanova trained in her home city, at Helsinki’s Sibelius Academy, and on the Young Artists Programme at Covent Garden. She is particularly associated with Verdi and Wagner, with repertoire including Amneris, Eboli, Venus, Brangaene, Fricka and Waltraute as well as Adalgisa (Norma), Cassandre (Les Troyens), Judit (Duke Bluebeard’s Castle) and Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana).

Her discography includes a ‘lively, probing Fricka’ (Gramophone) on Valery Gergiev’s 2013 recording of Die Walküre, Szymanowski symphonies with Gergiev and Edward Gardner, Norma from the Gran Teatre del Liceu, and an opera gala from Baden-Baden with Anja Harteros, Jonas Kaufmann and Bryn Terfel.
