Katarina Dalayman was born in Sweden in 1963 and trained at the Stockholm Opera Conservatory; since relatively early in her career she has been closely associated with hochdramatische roles, and in particular with Wagner. Her discography includes Brünnhilde on Sir Mark Elder’s Gramophone Award-winning recording of Götterdämmerung with The Hallé (‘Dalayman is one of the most appealing Brünnhildes on disc’ – BBC Music Magazine), Ortrud in Lohengrin (also under Elder, on the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra's own label), Kundry in François Girard’s 2013 production of Parsifal from the Metropolitan Opera on DVD and Blu-ray on on Elder’s recording with the Hallé, and the Walküre Brünnhilde on Christian Thielemann’s Ring Cycle with the Wiener Staatsoper.

Though she has sung zwischenfach roles including Kundry, Ortrud and Berg’s Marie throughout her career, Dalayman officially transitioned to become a mezzo in the mid-2010s and now includes Amneris, Waltraute, Fricka and Herodias in her repertoire.
