A collection of overtures by Finnish composers from the Oulu Symphony Orchestra and Rumon Gamba on Chandos was our best-selling recording of August; including Ernst Mielck's Dramatische Ouvertüre, Uuno Klami's Nummisuutarit and Selim Palmgren's overture for Cinderella, the album featured as our Recording of the Week on 11th August. James noted that 'Gamba is adept at remaining alert to the changing moods of each piece, whether it be ensuring that things are kept fizzing along nicely in Leevi Madetoja's Comedy Overture, or bringing out the expressive range of Armas Järnefelt's Overture lyrique'.
Several September releases also make premature appearances, including Volume 14 of Giovanni Antonini's Haydn 2032 project on Alpha (featuring symphonies Nos. 33, 53 and 54) and John Wilson & Sinfonia of London's complete recording of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Oklahoma! on Chandos, with a cast headed by Sierra Boggess and Nathaniel Hackmann.
