Wiener Singverein, Wiener Philharmoniker, Andris Nelsons

Recorded at the Musikverein’s Großer Saal between March 2017 and April 2019, and released in advance of the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth in 2020, this is Nelsons’s first complete Beethoven cycle on disc; Camilla Nylund, Gerhild Romberger, Klaus Florian Vogt and Georg Zeppenfeld are the soloists in the Ninth.

Nigel Kennedy (violin)

Recorded in the second half of the 1980s, this 7-CD box includes Kennedy’s groundbreaking 1989 account of The Four Seasons with the English Chamber Orchestra, the Walton Violin and Viola Concertos with Previn and the RPO, and his debut recording of the Elgar Violin Concerto with Vernon Handley, which was Gramophone’s Recording of the Year in 1985.
