Elgar: Symphony No. 1 & Introduction and Allegro
Doric String Quartet, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Edward Gardner
The Doric String Quartet joins the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Edward Gardner in the Introduction and Allegro, one of Elgar’s masterpieces. The full orchestra then appears in a passionate account of the majestic Symphony No. 1, a much-loved work ever since its premiere in 1906.

The third of the ongoing series from the partnership of Alina Ibragimova and Cédric Tiberghien. As before, the programme mixes the early - two works by the precocious ten-year-old - with the mature, and includes Mozart’s final violin sonata.
Available Formats: 2 CDs, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC
On two previous discs, Yevgeny Sudbin and Osmo Vänskä have released Beethoven’s three last piano concertos to critical acclaim. For the final disc in their cycle, they have travelled to Helsinki to team up with the Tapiola Sinfonietta for the earliest two of Beethoven’s piano concertos.
Available Formats: SACD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC
Pergolesi: Stabat Mater
Lucy Crowe (soprano) & Tim Mead (counter-tenor), La Nuova Musica, David Bates
Two of Bach’s finest cantatas, both for solo alto, are coupled with the delicious agony of grief that is Pergolesi’s Stabat mater, an acknowledged masterpiece by one of the 18th century’s most influential composers. On this recording, La Nuova Musica, in its tenth anniversary year, and its two eminent soloists display equal mastery of both idioms.
Available Formats: MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC
This disc contains music of predominantly royal association spanning the reign of Henry V, the Battle of Agincourt and its aftermath, and the coronations in England and France of the boy king Henry VI. The Binchois Consort under Andrew Kirkman bring this music vividly to life.
Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC
