Beethoven from the Elias String Quartet
Building on the success of the last three years, which have seen them explore the string quartets of Beethoven live in performance in a complete cycle due to finish in March 2015, the Elias Quartet are now preparing to release them on disc as well - in a major new series to be released on the Wigmore Hall Live label starting next year.
The releases will be live recordings of their Wigmore Hall performances, which themselves form the culmination of the quartet's Beethoven Project – an ambitious multimedia undertaking which since 2011 has seen them travel all over the UK exploring and performing the 17 quartets in a variety of ways.
Volume 1 will include the C minor Op. 18 No. 4, the 'Harp' Quartet, and the mighty Op. 130 and Grosse Fuge, and is set for release in January 2015.
