About
Ôstara is an ancient festival celebrating the spring equinox. Today we call it Easter (Ēostre) and associate it with Christianity; but its pagan origins persist in the numerous symbols of fertility that go alongside that Christian festival (eggs, flowers and the rabbit in particular). Violins would certainly not have played a part in very ancient festivals – as they would not have existed – but music and dance have always been central. That’s how we are as human beings: if something is that important, there has to be music. This short work of mine conjures the spirit of the ancient festival of Ôstara. The circle is cast, the folk are gathered and the spirits summoned. They dance.
