About
This short solo is dedicated to clarinettist Jack McNeill and was inspired by words from David Hart’s poem Crag Inspector:
‘I should have been sea.
It watches nobody,
it hears nobody, it wants
Nothing, itches for nothing,
it cries over nothing but is all
and always
nothing but water on the move,
with no head, no mind, no memory
it does not
anticipate, is never either pleased
or sorry, neither dead
nor alive. I should have
been sea.’
