Three Viola Portraits were commissioned by Peter Sulski and first performed by him at Dartington International Summer School in August 1998. Each ‘portrait’ represents either a composer or performer with a particular association with the viola but their identities are left to the conjectures of listeners. All multi-stops should be performed as unarpeggiated at possible.
