Individual lines from poems by Rose Ausländer have become the movement titles of my sonata - they are not set to music, but are the outlets of inspiration. In this fragmentary form, the words enter into a new correspondence with each other, the music carries their pictorial power for itself and develops its own poetry and dynamics. Thus it is not a tracing of images of nature, but a composition of ideas and at the same time a homage to this great lyricist of a vanished world. (Dorothea Hofmann)
