About
This work was intended a music for "Bali", a film about a girl who lived in a village in Africa. It would appear that this film was never produced, but over twenty minutes of music was written for the film, scored for flute, oboe, bassoon, cello, piano and celesta (with tom drum). As this music was written in 1953, around the same time that Tailleferre was working on her Concertino for flute and piano for Jean-Pierre Rampall, it may be that she was writing for him, although this cannot be proven. One will note various influences of extra-European music in this score, as well as ideas which were later re-used as elements of other works. The various notes for the action of the film, which were noted in Tailleferre's manuscript, have been retained here. The item is the score and complete parts
