Commissioned by Finchley Children?s Music Group for their Summer Course 2020.
Hummingbird is for a choir of humming singers. It was written during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, when government advice forbade choirs from singing as it was presumed that this would create a heightened risk of virus transmission. But humming was permitted. I have included suggested vowel sounds for future use when open-mouthed singing is again permitted.
My relationship with Finchley Children?s Music Group and their director Grace Rossiter goes back to 2015 when I wrote a larger-scale piece for them, On Goes The River: Three Songs of Childhood, for choir, piano and optional small ensemble. I?m delighted to be given the opportunity to write for them again.
Two versions of the score are available: (1) full score, and (2) unison choir and body percussion. The full score is required; the cut-down score for unison choir and body percussion is for any people just on those parts. When purchasing, please ensure you add the required number of each score to your basket.
