About

Harebell
The Skylark On Her Nest
Dumbledor Dances

These three pieces were inspired by the flora and fauna of the Malvern Hills. The harebell is a delicate ?but resilient flower that grows on the top of the hill and the violinist is asked to mimic the fluttering of the ?harebell flower in the breeze with the bow. The Skylark on her Nest conjures up a sleepy bird brooding ?on her eggs, half dreaming of the song of her mate, and Dumbledor Dances inhabits the inner world of ?a dumbledor beetle, who can sometimes be found bumbling across summer paths. The beetle?s steady ?amble is often interrupted by antennae waving, and in this piece I imagine the beetle?s dream-world ?where the beetle is, in their own mind, dancing wildly and brilliantly through life.

The premiere performance was given on baroque violin by Lucy Russell on July 28th, 2022 at the Church of St Matthias, Malvern Link. ?Dedicated to the memory of Lucy?s father, Willie Russell, the eminent virologist.
