Haze is inspired by the stunning exhibition JMW Turner: Adventures in Colour shown at Turner Contemporary, Margate in 2016 featuring paintings by the artist Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775 ? 1851).

Choosing to focus on 5 particular paintings taken from the exhibition, I strung these together to form a fictional narrative ? of a man in a boat at sea taking a journey around the east coast, the coastline Turner felt had ?the loveliest skies in Europe?.

In 3 movements, Whispering Silence (inspired by the painting Blue Moonlight over yellow sands) serves as prelude to Set Sail for the Sun (inspired by A Sailing Boat off Deal) where the boat begins it?s journey, moving through choppy to calm waters, darkening skies, rough seas (A Boat and a Red Buoy on a rough sea) before we are hit by a storm (Storm off the East Coast). The last movement and namesake of the work is Haze, inspired by Turner?s beautiful painting Sunset over the sea.
