This is the third in my ?revisited? series, with 3 of William Byrd?s keyboard pieces from the Fitzwilliam Virginal collections given a modern transcription. I have always had a soft spot for the works by these wonderful composers from the Elizabethan period who gave such inventive variation treatment to melodies which were not original but were in fact very well-known, catchy tunes of the day. I suppose I have, therefore, written variations of variations of popular tunes from 16th century everyday life, which I hope maintain the character of the originals whilst conveying the joyful spirit of the period.
