Drang was originally written for Margit Kern. It is a highly virtuoso piece requiring enormous technique and stamina for the performance. The German word Drang (drive, impulse, urge, strong desire) depicts exactly the nature of the music I wanted to write. This music is to be played with much Sturm und Drang character: impetuous, yearning, passionate, gestural, directional and always virtuoso-like. Like in other works of mine, breath is here the driving force of the music.
