Widerstehen is based directly on the life and death of my grandfather?s eldest child, Elisabeth von Thadden, who was executed on 8th September 1944 in Pl?tzensee prison in Berlin. The text draws on family documents, including Elisabeth?s letters, accounts of her life by her sister, her nephew and her half-sister (my mother) who was also a pupil in Elisabeth?s school, as well as material from the Museum of the? German Resistance in Berlin, other archives and books on her life.
