Paragon Rag has the enigmatic profile of a lady on its front cover, but carries a dedication on the title page to the C.V.B.A., the Colored Vaudeville Benevolent Association. It is unusual in having a clearly marked Trio section in the related subdominant key which is a device going back to the minuet sections of classical works which was then adopted by military composers to give a more formal structure to their marches.
