The Miserere of Gregorio Allegri is one of the best-loved pieces of choral music in the world - but its textual history is a headache! This edition presents the piece we know as "Allegir's Miserere" in two versions (one now attributed chiefly to Tommaso Bai), as it is believed to have been sung in the Sistine Chapel betwee ca. 1750-1900, replete with ornamentation and textual commentary.
Edition One is a transcription of the 1892 manuscript of Domenico Mustafà, the last direttore of the Papal Choir, based on Tommaso Bai's Miserere of 1711.
Edition Two is bassed on the Miserere taken from a series of manuscripts from the 1820s.
