These songs from the important Spanish collection known as the Cancionero musical de Segovia date from about 1500. The first threeGran gasajo siento yo, Nuevas nuevas and Al del hato (probably all by Juan de Encina), dramatise the shepherds experience of the Nativity; the fourth, Dez flor rresplandeiente, is addressed to the Virgin; and the fifth, Qul estvades anoche, by contrast recollects a tavern orgy. In three and four parts, the music is suitable for solo voices, small choir or instrumental consort. For more songs from this source, see AE19. i + 10 pages.
