Hugh Aston, a contemporary of John Taverner, was choirmaster at the collegiate church of St Mary Newarke, Leicester for more than twenty years. Te matrem dei laudamus (a Marian paraphrase of the Te Deum) and his Mass Te deum laudamus (published as RCM27) are probably the pair of works that he offered for the Oxford Mus.B. in 1510. Like most of his music, they are very ornate, rhythmically dynamic and unusually dissonant. For five voices: TrATTB. viii + 23 pages.
