This charming fiddling song from the southern mountains of Appalachia is engaging and humorous, featuring progressive use of intervals in harmonic structure (unison, thirds, and fourths, fifths); antiphonal singing between womenand men; and a brief piano solo. The accompaniment captures the rhythmic feel of a country fiddle, and the boisterous excitement of a hoedown is both heard and felt in the harmonic refrain “...Hey ho,dee-iddle-um-day!” Treat your choir and your audience to a journey up Sourwood Mountain.
