The Hampstead and Highgate Festival in London performed several of Rautavaara’s orchestral and chamber works in summer 1999. To include a premiere in the programme, festival director Barry Milligan commissioned Hymnus for trumpet and organ from Rautavaara. The duration of this sonorous, mystical work is ca 6 minutes.
