The Berliner Schule Edition aims at making the oeuvre of the composers who attended Arnold Schoenberg's master class at the Prussian Academy of Arts between 1925 and 1933 known to a wider public. In contrast to the Viennese pupils of Schoenberg, his Berlin master class students have remained unknown to a large extent as most of their young careers came to a sudden end when the National Socialists seized power in 1933. Peter Schacht (1901-1945) who was a pupil of Arnold Schoenberg in Berlin from 1927-1932 led a secluded life in Berlin after 1933 where he composed his 'Innere-Emigration' song cycle based on texts by Richard Billinger and put poems of Rimbaud, Mörike and Hölderlin to music.
