With a dramatic introduction and a beautiful "Andante" section, this overture is excellent for concert or contest use. The main theme alternates effectively from major to minor with active accompaniment patterns. The contrasting middle section is flowing and reflective before transitioning back to the drama of the main theme and the exciting conclusion.
