Even such is time (Sir Walter Raleigh) is a gift to composers, and Chilcott makes the most of playing off strict, metrical time against wayward, irregular 'human' rhythms. The clock is in the upper voices, and the travellers through time are in the tenor and bass with a tune which, with its rock-inflected stresses actually does quite a lot of violence to the metre of the lyrics, but perhaps that's the point. It would make a welcome change as an anthem
