About
Giacomo Smith leads a new quartet on Artfullee, joined by pianist Joe Webb, bassist Anders Fjeldsted and drummer Snorre Kirk. Its six originals were taught by ear rather than through written charts, leaving the musicians free to shape them collectively in the studio. Smith moves between soprano and alto saxophones, clarinet and bass clarinet, bringing a darker, nocturnal quality to music rooted in the jazz tradition. Pensive without becoming sombre, it marks an assured step beyond his work with Kansas Smitty’s.
