While it may seem like a distant memory, the world was forever changed during the COVID-19 pandemic. I always tell my students that art doesn't exist in a vacuum, and this album is proof of concept. All of these tunes were composed in the early stages of the pandemic. They reflect my personal lived experience, which was a dichotomy of inactivity coupled with uncertain dread. Many of us turned to "living" our lives on the internet, which had a multitude of unforeseen consequences. Still, humanity persevered. I hope this music will remind us that we are able to simultaneously experience great joy and sorrow, and can find a way to grow from every experience.
