The Standard Joe, his fourth recording in six years with a pianoless trio, the great tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson, along with bassist Rufus Reid and drummer Al Foster, perform well-known jazz standards plus an original blues by Henderson titled "Inner Urge". Of the standards, there are two lengthy versions of Johnny Green's "Body and Soul", Kenny Dorham's "BlueBossa", Thelonious Monk's "Round Midnight", and Billy Strayhorn's "Take The A Train". To listeners not that familiar with Henderson's playing, he brings new life to these often-overplayed jazz standards.
