Pianist and composer Sean Mason began teaching himself piano at thirteen, starting with the music of his upbringing – gospel, soul, and R&B. Based in New York, he studies at Juilliard and leads the Sean Mason Quintet. In his hometown of Charlotte, NC, he leads the Sean Mason Trio. He has played at Smoke Jazz Club, Smalls Jazz Club, Lincoln Center, the Rochester Jazz Festival, and the Montana Folk Festival. He was featured on National Public Radio’s Jazz Night In America on its “Youngbloods” series, and he played on the soundtrack for the Netflix production Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and Tulsa Burning: The 1921 Race Massacre on The History Channel. His debut record of original compositions, The Southern Suite, was produced by Branford Marsalis and will be released this fall on Blue Engine Records, the label of Jazz At Lincoln Center.
